The River Christian Reform Church // What We Believe

The River Christian Reformed Church subscribes to the historic Christian faith.

  • Scripture Alone (Hebrews 4:12) We hold the Bible to be the Word of God, the only infallible rule for faith and practice and our ultimate point of reference.
  • Christ Alone (Acts 4:12) Jesus Christ alone is to be trusted for salvation. There is no salvation outside Christ.
  • Grace Alone (Ephesians 2:8-9) Salvation is by grace, through faith alone, and not by works.
  • To God Alone Be the Glory (Jude 25) We seek to glorify our Triune God alone. We believe that ultimately all things must work together to bring glory to God alone.

Living Coram Deo
Coram Deo means “before the face of God.” The River Christian Reformed Church seeks to make every believer mindful that he/she lives all of life in God’s presence and under His authority. Living Coram Deo is recognizing that God is totally aware of our every thought, word, and deed and living accordingly so that He is honored and glorified.

What is a “Reformed” Church?
The word “Reformed” means that our heritage and tradition reach back to the time of the Protestant Reformation. To be a church in that historic tradition is to believe that God is a covenant God, meaning that He works in the families of the church to establish a people for Himself from generation to generation. It is also to be a church that places all worship, work, life, and mission under the will of a Sovereign God. That will of God is found in the Bible, the only infallible rule of faith and practice.

Many of the truths of the Bible have been summarized in the creeds and confessions of the church. The River Christian Reformed Church endorses the following as accurate summaries of the Bible’s teaching:

  • The Apostles’ Creed

  • The Nicene Creed

  • The Heidelberg Catechism

  • The Belgic Confession

  • The Canons of Dordt

These are not substitutes for, but serious testimonies to, the truth of the Bible. You can learn more about these important issues by attending our New Members’ Class.
