Beltline is very dedicated to the Great Commission and dedicates a large portion of its annual budget to local and foreign mission work—as designated under the “Domestic Missions” and “Foreign Missions” links—and we also provide support for other miscellaneous ministries from time to time on an as needed basis.
Our annual missions budget was around $481,000.00 for 2011.
The Missions Committee evaluates requests for support, makes decisions as to which ministries Beltline should support, supervises each ministry supported by Beltline, and makes recommendations to the Elders. Additionally, the Missions Committee sets policy regarding the works supported by Beltline and is governed by the “Missions Committee Guidelines/Policy Statement,” as amended, setting forth the Missions Philosophy of Beltline, the duties and responsibilities of the Missions Committee, and the duties and responsibilities of each supported or sponsored “missionary” (including those members and friends of members who are supported on a “short term” mission trip).
The Guidelines/Policy Statement were approved and implemented by the Elders 29th day of March, 2006, and have been amended to deal with email communication between the chairman and the committee members and to establish a request and approval process for travel and other expenditures and the itemization of expenditures for all travel on Missions Committee business. Each year during December, each ministry supported by Beltline is evaluated and the Committee discusses whether or not to continue supporting each ministry. Every two years each work is visited by two members of the Committee in order to evaluate its effectiveness and report back to the Committee in order to determine whether the congregation should continue supporting the ministry.
The Committee is composed of 11 members: Calvin McBride (Chair), Patrick Swinea (Vice Chair), Richard Talley (who keeps up with all expenditures and availability of funds), Bob Walker, Ray Solley, David Smith, Steve Chandler, Mac Buchanan, Cecil Green, Stan Wallace, and Harry Hames.
