After 11 years of serving the Westwood family, Senior Pastor, Les Hughes and his family have accepted God’s call to become the Senior Pastor at Highview Baptist Church in Louisville, KY.
Since Les has been pastor, Westwood has seen unprecedented growth that led to moving to our current facility in March of 2006 on Alabaster Boulevard. We have also seen Westwood become a much more engaged Missional Church as we have mission partnerships all over the world. With the inaugural ONE Mission Celebration in 2010, Westwood saw 28 missionary families come to the Alabaster Campus and share their stories and engage the church in a vision to reach people around the world. It was here that Les shared a goal to reach 100,000 people with the Gospel and to help plant 1,000 churches over the next 10 years.
We have seen hundreds of churches planted in Cuba, North America, Mexico, Ecuador and India and we have been part of thousands coming to know the Lord as well.
In the fall of 2010, Westwood launched its first Multi-site campus in Calera. As part of our Mission, “to reach people and make disciples”, we embarked on planting this campus just 9 miles away. Under Les’ leadership that campus is doing its mission in reaching people.
In the fall of 2011, Westwood launched its second Multi-site campus in Montevallo. With this campus continuing to reach people we now have 3 campuses within a radius of approximately 15 miles.
All of this and much more has been part of Les’ wonderful leadership and vision. We as a church family are saddened yet excited about the Hughes’ call to Kentucky. Even though we are losing a, mentor, leader and Pastor, Les taught us to always be obedient even when it’s not comfortable. That is what he and his family have done and what the family of Westwood will do as well.
