Diet, a Wide Variety of Human States and Our Stressed Environment Contribute to Excess Body Acid
Any decline in health begins at the cellular level, with particular cells becoming acid, toxic, polluted - it's called metabolic acidosis. These strong acids - like the acid in your car's battery - are sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid and nitric acid. The acid level is determined by measuring its pH. pH is measured on a scale of 1 to 14, with pH 1 being the most acidic and pH 14 the most basic (or alkaline). (Uncontaminated, natural water is "neutral" at a pH of 7.0.)
All ingested substances and all situations physical, emotional or mental) that affect the body leave either an alkaline or acid ash residue in the urine. Here's how:
- Certain minerals you take in are acid-binding, meaning that in the body they bind acid toxins and leave alkaline-forming ash in the urine; other minerals are alkaline-binding, meaning that they bind the alkaline reserve minerals in your body and leave an acid-forming ash in the urine; our modern diet contains far more acid-forming minerals than the diet of our agricultural ancestors
- Physical, emotional or mental states can be either acid-forming or alkaline-forming. Stress - so much a part of our lives today – is acid-forming
- The state of our embattled environment results in our ingestion of more acidic solids and liquids than used to be the case
- We have greatly expanded our reliance on prescription drugs, and almost all drugs leave acid ash residue
- Our bodies' ability to process acid steadily decreases as we age; that's part of the reason that our bodies have to work harder just to keep our normal functions working properly
The pH of the blood has to remain between 7.35 and 7.45. If your blood's pH rises or falls one tenth of a pH unit, it's cause for a visit to a hospital's intensive care unit. If blood pH moves two tenths either way, it is lethal.
How a constant pH is maintained in the blood is a very complex matter and one that everything in the body helps to maintain, since the healthy functioning of everything in the body depends on this constant. However, the widespread occurrence of over-acidity indicates our bodies are often challenged to maintain that delicate balance, leading to wide-spread, chronic low-grade metabolic acidosis.
Chronic metabolic acidosis is when an excess acid load is placed on the body due to excess acid generation or diminished acid removal.
Waste acids that are not eliminated when they should be are reabsorbed from the colon into the liver and put back into general circulation. They then deposit in the tissues. It is these tissue residues that determine sickness or health!
Strong acids must be excreted by the kidneys because they contain sulfur, phosphorus or nitrogen which cannot break down into water and carbon dioxide to be eliminated as the weaker acids in the body are. In their passage through the kidneys these strong acids must take a basic mineral with them, which contributes to more acidity.
This rise in excess acidity in the body for all of these reasons is why pH Sciences created its line of AlkaPlex products and how you can enjoy "Optimal Living through Optimal Body pH".
